Winter Garden Hacks For All

You don’t have to be incredibly green-fingered or horticulturally minded to enjoy your little patch of garden space. If you are fortunate enough to have some outside space during these surreal Covid-19 days, you have probably never utilized it so much. Getting outdoors has been a natural stress-reliever and may quash our anxieties a little. Having greenery around you has been scientifically proven to lower blood pressure and help you find a healthier sleep pattern. Just because winter is coming doesn’t mean you have to head indoors and leave the garden behind. Check out these winter garden hacks so you can keep using your outside space as the months become colder.

Heat

As it becomes colder, we may worry about getting frostbite or hypothermia as we shiver on our deck chairs in the back garden. However, with the advent of all sorts of heating options, you can feel warm and cozy while relaxing in your back garden with cocoa. Fire pits are brilliant for those people who love toasting marshmallows or who love the rustic feel of a campfire. A steel firepit looks smart, as well as keeping your garden warm enough to enjoy all year round. For those of us with more sophisticated tastes, a patio heater that looks more like a street lamp can generate plenty of heat that cascades from above. For some of these heating options, you will need to consider propane near me to fuel up your grill or your chimney. You don’t have to resign yourself to being indoors for the next four months.

Prune

As the colder months descend, our herbaceous perennials start shedding their leaves. This is a great time to get out and do some pruning and deadheading in your borders. Get out some secateurs and begin cutting off those wilted pieces of foliage just above a twig nodule. This is where the next bud will grow and ensures strong development going into next season. If your lawn has seen better days, give it one last mow before winter sets in. If you do this, you won’t see much growth in the cold months, meaning you should be able to maintain a well-coiffed and short lawn. For those bushes and hedges that are looking a bit ragged, some hedge cutters or shears to give your shrubbery a haircut will allow you to enjoy a neat and tidy garden ambiance.

Dining

Alfresco dining can still be achieved in the winter months. You need to make sure that you have the relevant heating option available but you also need to add comfort and a spot of Danish hygge to your eating out soiree. Consider lining your chairs with throws and cushions for people to snuggle into. Have cloth table settings and encourage your diners to take a cardigan or shawl as they sit outside. Dining outside is safer than eating indoors as coronavirus transmission is much less apparent in an outdoor setting. Make sure you sit diners two meters away from one another and keep your gathering intimate with just four or six guests. This way, you can enjoy the company, be outdoors, and sample some great food.

Follow this guide and you can enjoy your garden this winter.
