How much time do you spend at home? If you are like most people, you spend quite a few hours at home every week. This has probably increased in the past year, especially if you are in a location where covid-19 is particularly pronounced. Yet, many of us live in homes that are not actually all that healthy for our wellbeing. If you would like to make sure that your home is as healthy as possible, it’s a good idea to take a look at some of the following concerns in particular.
Allow For Airflow
Allowing air to flow around the home is hugely important, and yet not many people realize that it is so. If you don’t allow for this in your home, it means that the air can become stagnant and that can lead to a number of problems. You need good ventilation in areas where you are cooking so that you don’t have to worry about smells and so on. But also, you need to think about carbon monoxide, which is a silent deadly killer and which can be improved by allowing air to flow through the house. So make sure that you are doing that as well as possible.
Filter The Air
As well as letting air flow easily and freely around the home, you should also make sure that you are filtering that air wherever necessary. There are a lot of reasons you might want to do this. For one thing, you might have a lot of moisture in the air, which can cause dampness – and that can be a big health problem if you are not careful. Beyond that, you might need to actually use a humidifier instead, in order to stop the home from drying out. Having a couple of good quality air filters in your home is therefore advised.
Grow Plants Indoors
Another way to improve the air quality of the home, and therefore the salubriousness of the home, is to grow plants indoors. Having houseplants is a way of naturally filtering the air, and if you have these as well as air filters you are going to have a much healthier home in no time. Plants absorb harmful pollutants very efficiently, as well as making your home a greener space, which can help with a range of mental health issues, and generally make the home a lot more liveable too.
Enforce A Smoking Ban
Ideally, you should make sure that nobody is smoking in the home. If you do allow smoking, that is going to undo all of the hard work that you have put into keeping the home healthy in those other ways, so that is clearly not worth doing. With a smoking ban, your home is going to be much healthier for everyone who lives there and all who step foot in there, and this is clearly something that you are going to want to pay attention to. It is one of the most important things you can do for your health.
