The Art of The Waiting Room

The waiting room can be a place that brings a lot of nerves. It might be because you run a specialized dental practice – or perhaps you have a budding beauty business. The waiting room needs to have these features to make sure your clients love it.

Once you have spent some time thinking about the features of your waiting room, you can work with experts like Medifit Design and Construct to bring it to life.

Modern

While there is a certain charm in having a home-like old-fashioned waiting room, patients and clients want something modern, sleek, and stylish most of the time. Most waiting rooms look the same, and that is because the layout is practical and works for the majority of visitors.

It is better to offer a range of seating options that can be moved (for those who come in with more people or children).

90% neutral colors with a swipe of something brighter don’t cost any energy of the person waiting.

Full time

Sometimes appointments run over, and while most of the time it can be a short time, other times they run far over. The people waiting should have things to do to fill the time.

Keeping a stack of newly released magazines and recycling old ones. WiFi that has a strong enough signal for people to use and an area for children to play can help the process of waiting to be more active – and time will pass quickly.

Updated

No one likes to keep approaching the desk to ask how long the wait will be; instead, they have a screen that all waiting room clients can see. Keep it updated so that no one needs to be bothered or feel like they are bothering the reception staff.

Waiting times can suddenly increase, and sometimes long waits can be avoided. Keeping people informed is the best thing you can do.

A little luxury

Depending on your establishment’s medical care, dental care, or beauty treatments, the waiting room can be a scary place. Dry mouth, anxious feelings, and more can be helped a little when there are few luxuries available.

A coffee machine, water dispenser, mints, and even smaller snack bars can help people feel better. When people are worried or nervous, they get hungry and thirsty at inopportune times.

This small act will make them feel taken care of, and they won’t be worried about rumbling tummies or being dehydrated.

First-hand help

From the moment the patient walks in, there should be someone available to help them. Someone who can welcome them, check them in on the system, show them the seating area, make them aware of waiting times and even get them some water.

You might find appointing someone specifically for this role works for you, or you may find that your reception staff is happy to take on the role too.

The waiting room doesn’t have to be a scary place – it can be somewhere calm and welcoming.
