How To Make The Roof Over Your Head Last Longer

Every single person who has a house has a roof. It’s the hardest-working piece of the home-building puzzle, and it keeps your home safe from climate issues, it keeps your house comfortable and it makes sure that you have embraced energy efficiency as much as you can. If you want a system that lasts for your home, then you need to do everything that you can to keep your roof healthy.

A roof that is unsupported by broken gutters that haven’t got gutter guards is a roof that won’t last. If your gutters are leaky and broken, they are going to cause leaks in your roof, which then affects your house and stops the effectiveness of the roof and how it keeps you safe. The idea here is to keep your roof over your head as long as possible without having to replace or repair it. You can’t always help the need for repairs; even high winds can rip the tiles off your roof. However, there is plenty that you can be doing to ensure that you protect your roof and thus, your investment. Let’s check out some of the ways to make your roof last as long as possible.

Get Those Gutters Cleaned!

We’ve already gone over the importance of the gutters, but let’s talk about the need for gutter guards. The gutters always attract leaves and twigs that lead to animals creating nests in a space not designed for them. With gutter guards, this shouldn’t happen, but you still need to get your gutters cleaned twice a year. Do it before the summer and before the winter, and you should be able to protect your home from broken gutters. This is excellent roof protection, so don’t underestimate its importance.

Add Insulation

Your attic needs to be well insulated if you want to protect your roof from ice throughout the winter. Ice dams can easily form on the roof when the air from the house melts the snow that has settled on the roof. With insulation, this melting wouldn’t happen. So, protect your roof by keeping that hot air in the house!

Power Wash

Plenty of moss and algae can build up on the roof – it’s an inevitably for some houses. It can affect the aesthetics of the house, but it can also lead to mold and mildew, which affects the roof and its safety, and this then leads to affected resale. Power washing the roof can get rid of all of this problem for you!

Trim Your Trees

If you are fortunate enough to have big and beautiful trees in your garden, you need to keep those trimmed right back. Branches that land on the roof can rub and scrape, causing thousands worth of damage. Trees are a wonderful addition to the home, but they can cause issues for your roof when you don’t want them to!

 Bring In The Professionals

You can get a professional roofer to your house to inspect it and ensure it is structurally sound at least twice a year. Once you have your roof inspected, you can feel safe!
