The flooring you choose for your home can make a huge difference to not only the way it looks but the way it feels, works and ages. Hardwood floors have become a very popular installation in many modern houses but we’re here to argue for carpets’ corner. So if you’re torn between which flooring to choose, then here are five reasons to consider carpet, and not dismiss it quite yet.
1.Added insulation
A well-insulated floor can make a huge difference to the energy efficiency of your home and can save you a lot of money on heating bills, not to mention, protecting your cold toes. Hardwood floors are inherently cold and require a lot of added insulation to be laid beneath them, adding to the cost. During carpet installation, on the other hand, less insulation is needed because the carpet itself is an insulating material, feeling warmer underfoot, regardless of the temperature outside.
2. Safer all round
For little feet learning to walk, older feet who are a little unstable or simply accident-prone teenagers always dropping their phones, carpet is a much safer option. Carpeted surfaces have more grip, reducing the chance of slips and falls, and they’re more cushioned too, so if an accident does happen, then the person is less likely to sustain a serious injury. Phones dropped on a carpeted floor are also a lot less likely to smash as are other valuable items. Finally, carpet is even safer for pets as it enables them to get more grip on their paws and is kinder on their joints by stopping them from sliding around.
3. More design choice
Hardwood floors don’t come in that many colors or patterns, limiting design freedom. Carpet, on the other hand, comes in endless patterns, thicknesses, colors, designs, and effects, giving you true freedom to decorate your space as you see fit. From one room to another, different colored hardwood floors can look odd, but mix and match carpet can look stylish, enabling you to express yourself in one room and your kids to express themselves in another.
4. Less noise
Walk on a hardwood floor and it sounds like an elephant is treading around upstairs because the shock of each footstep is not absorbed by the hard material. Carpet, on the other hand, is almost soundless, absorbing the force of footsteps making it by far the quietest flooring option – allowing you to tread around as normal without waking up everyone in the house, or upsetting your downstairs neighbors.
5. It’s cheaper
Finally, unless you’re looking at some fancy carpet, then the chances are that carpeting your home will be cheaper than looking for hardwood options. With so many different colors, thicknesses and types of carpet to choose from there’s a carpet for every price point making it an affordable way to furnish your home.
So, although hardwood floors may be the more trendy option in houses nowadays, don’t dismiss a good old fashioned carpet just yet, your toes, neighbors, bank account and pets will thank you for it.
