While it can be cold and miserable outside, one thing that is really lovely about winter is coming home to a cozy home, getting warm by the fire, getting snuggled up in comfy clothes, eating warm hearty food, drinking a hot chocolate, and having a lovely time indoors. At the moment, most of us have no choice but to spend more time indoors due to Coronavirus and lockdowns, so isn’t it a good idea to make your home somewhere lovely a cozy, and somewhere you are happy to be spending most of your time? So what do you need to make your home cozy this winter?
Lighting
When it’s dark early, raining, and cold outside, the best way you can make yourself feel warm and cozy inside is to get the right lighting. To create a warm and cozy atmosphere, you’ll need soft, diffused lighting, so if the main lights in your home are harsh and bright, invest in table lamps and side lamps that you can place in corners or even on the floor. Get enough so that you have enough lighting for the activities you want to do, and you can also choose how many you have on at one time to create the warm glow you’re after. You could also go for a few fairy lights, which you can drape over a mantelpiece or mirror or even a bookcase, and instantly make your home look magical and cozy.
Carpets and Curtains
Having thick curtains will add another layer of insulation to your home as well as adding to the ambiance of the home. While sheer curtains look great in the summer, when you want to snuggle up in the winter, closing your thick curtains is the way to go. If you don’t already have a carpet, then this is something you could look into; alternatively, adding thick rugs can keep you warmer and add to that cozy ambiance you’re trying to achieve.
Soft Furnishings
When it’s cold outside, you want to feel warm inside, and while you can stick the heating on and light the fire if you have one, another way to keep warm is to get cozy with blankets and cushions, and the more, the better. When you’re not wrapped in them or lying on them, having cushions and piled high on your sofa and chairs or even large floor cushions will make your home look super cozy and warm. To add even more coziness to your home, choose different textures and fabrics, and designs. Mismatched cushions and throws can make your home look great, and with a bit of velvet, chenille, sheepskin, and wool, you can add ultimate texture and warmth.
Candles
Not only do candles add a soft flickering glow to your home and create a warm and cozy ambiance that is perfect for cold winter nights, but scented candles also add to the warmth of your home. Choose winter scents such as spicy scents or festive flavors that will make you feel warm and probably evoke some wonderful memories too.
